SPACE COLLAGE PART 1
I’ve always been interested in surreal art, and I love making them. I used Photoshop for this project to make a surreal space collage. When I was thinking of ideas to do for my collage, I knew that space should definitely be part of it and aliens.
I feel like you can do all sorts of crazy things in space and having all these creatures would be fascinating. I used an image of an arm and changed the color to green indicating he is an alien, and he is holding / hovering the planets with his hand. The message being that there is always a bigger fish, and we are not alone.
SPACE COLLAGE PART 2
This is a continuation of the first collage zoomed all the way out. I used an image of an ape’s hand and changed the color to purple to contrast it with the green hand. In this collage, I wanted to go even crazier with the visuals, having an open mouth that leads to another galaxy, having huge sea creatures and eyes floating around in space.
Additionally, the body of the green alien is warped a bit and it has hands for feet and a weird looking face with cartoonish swirly eyes. Just like the first collage, the message is that there will always be a bigger fish and what I love about this message is that this collage can be never-ending, I can make more and more of this collage series by keep zooming out and showing countless aliens holding on to the previous smaller aliens.
ANIMAL HYBRID
I’ve made an animal hybrid creature using Adobe Photoshop and it was really fun to make. I was searching for images of all kinds of animals to get some sort of an idea of what I want the hybrid to look like. I thought the head of an elephant would be really interesting, giving it great hearing, and a body of a very fast animal, the cheetah. Also, I didn’t want to keep the trunk of the elephant since I thought that would be kind of boring, so I was thinking of giving it a beak of a toucan and adding fangs to make it look menacing.
Additionally, I wanted this animal to have the ability to fly too by adding butterfly wings. I really liked playing around with the texture of all these animals and blending them together, so it is clear that it is one interesting looking animal. The texture of the elephant skin blending through the beak and the fur of the cheetah makes it more believable.
TV TRANSPORTER PART 1
This is another surreal project I’ve worked on in Photoshop. The idea is that real life people and objects are being transported by the TV into a surreal cartoon world, while having parts of them are transitioning into a cartoon also. This idea of going through the TV into a cartoon world was something I really wanted to do ever since I was a kid. Movies like Mary Poppins, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam had a huge influence on me while I was creating this.
The man coming out of the TV, screaming while transitioning into a cartoon was the first subject I thought of while I was making this. At the top, there is the static TV with a clownfish getting out and instantly turning into a cartoon. The background is an image I found online and converted it into a cartoon using Adobe Illustrator by going to image trace, clicking an option, expand and increasing the strokes. The green building and the wonky road are one of my own drawings I did as well as the cartoon man, fish, moustache and the huge eye. The transition effect I’ve used was pixelization since cartoons are made of a huge number of pixels.
TV TRANSPORTER PART 2
This is the second part of the story where this time cartoon people and objects are being transported by the TV into the real world. The anime girl screaming and transitioning into a real girl parallels the first part of the man transitioning into a cartoon. The buildings in the background have been turned very colorful and vibrant.
