SELF-PORTRAIT
I did this self portrait in my intro to drawing class a few years ago. I printed an image of myself to use as reference and I used a 10x8 grid for this project. I used 5 different graphite pencils to have different shades (2H, HB, 2B, 4B and 6B).
Although I have done self-portraits before, this was my first one that had so much detail. I really love how I drew my hair very meticulously; it’s going in many directions but it's still clean and looks realistic. I would say there can be improvements in certain areas like the eyes and lips but overall, this is my best self-portrait drawing yet.
CITY LANDSCAPE
I’ve used my phone to take a picture of the buildings at W 53rd St. and 6th Ave. by zooming out and giving it 3-point perspective. I printed out the image and used an 8x10 grid. Using grids is extremely helpful because each square is its own image, and you can be more accurate in detail using these squares rather than drawing the whole thing all at once.
I’ve used different graphite pencils and charcoal to have variety types of shading. I mostly used 4B graphite pencil for the water and I really like how it turned out especially the reflection of the water. I used charcoal to show the darker areas of the building and I used 2H on the windows.
JOKER PAINTINGS
I did 2 paintings of Joker. One is an acrylic painting, and one is a digital painting. I’m not much of a painter using actual brushes and paints; I am more skilled in painting digitally. So, you can really see the difference between the two paintings of Joker.
I used Adobe Illustrator to paint the Joker and used the eyedropper tool on the reference image to get the correct colors. I feel like I can add more and more detail painting digitally than painting on actual paper; especially the pattern on his shirt and his hair. This is one of my favorite paintings I’ve done to one of my favorite characters of all time.
